EAM Ext. Plays: Civilization VI !
Context / Settling
A mysterious game about the rise and fall of empires has found its way into the game nights of Molly's adoptive family. How would they play a game that claims to be inspired by a history that never existed?
Players: Molly, Giovanni, Sylvie, Mera, Indus, Feenie, Trixie, Rick, Zora, Yoomtah, Naven, Ramsey, Howie and Percy.
(Also known as EAM Extended or EAM Ext; credits to @epitheterasedgen as the originator of the base EAM concept)
Game: Sid Meier's Civilization VI (with both Rise & Fall and Gathering Storm expansions).
Some things we're going to assume (but please put down theories and suggestions if you have any, we'd love to read them!):
This takes place between Redwood Run and Prison Of Plastic in terms of everyone's character development.
That everyone (see Players) is able to independently operate a computer as well as one that can run the game in question.
Everyone views the game as alternate history fantasy and all the 'factions' as fictional. "Why is Australia here?"
The game has a language setting for the EE universe's language so that the family can actually understand what they're doing. They assume all the other language settings as really well designed conlangs made by dedicated developers.
No one in the EE universe has any idea who made the game or how it was developed. All the names and developing firms do not show up in any records, and everyone just accepts it as part of the game's mysterious allure.
If no one can identify Roman numerals, then chances are the characters will refer to the game verbally as 'Civilisation: We' .
The game is hailed in the EE universe (or at least in communities aware of its existence) as being the pinnacle of alternate language and culture creations for a piece of entertainment.
Who do you think would try to study the languages the most, Sylvie, Feenie or somebody else?
List of civilisations that everyone would use
Molly = Mongolia under Kublai Khan
Giovanni = Hungary
Sylvie = Babylon
Mera = Phonicia
Indus = {Prefers} Maori or Gilgamesh (Sumer) {Mera may convince Indus to instead choose Ottomans}
Percy = Poland
Ramsey = Australia
Trixie = Macedonia
Feenie = Canada
Naven = Sweden
Zora = Norway
Yoomtah = Gran Colombia or Scythia
Howie = China
Rick = Maori {else Phonecia else Norway else Japan.}
Explanations for the list coming soon!

Whoa! If not for doing the ‘screen to script’ exercise for this scene...I wouldn’t have noticed this interesting way Chris illustrates how skilled of a forger Eames is.

(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 148 minutes of ‘Inception’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)

My initial take on that scene was that Eames was in the reflection...noticing that he managed to play it up for Saito just is confirmation of cheekiness (remember the ‘dream a little bigger’ scene?)
PS: Where do I stand about the ending? Cobb arrives home...of course!
--------
INT. HOTEL BAR - DAY
FISCHER watches EAMES (in disguise) walk off.
COBB
She must've blown you off. That is unless her phone number is only six digits.
FISCHER glances at the napkin left behind: 528-491
COBB
Funny way to make friends, someone stealing your wallet like that.
FISCHER checks. Gone. He scoffs.
FISCHER
Goddamn it. The wallet alone is worth at least five ---
COBB
About $500, right? Listen, don't worry about it. My people are already on it, as we speak.
INT. HOTEL LOBBY - CONTINUOUS
ARTHUR and ARIADNE are sitting on one of the lounges, watching COBB in action.
ARIADNE
Who or what is Mr. Charles?
ARTHUR
It's a gambit desinged to turn Fischer...
EAMES (still in disguise) heads to the lift.
ARTHUR
...against his own subconscious.
ARIADNE
And why don't you approve?
ARTHUR
Because it involves telling the mark that he's dreaming, which involves attracting a lot of attention to us.
She chuckles.
ARIADNE
Didn't Cobb say never to do that?
ARTHUR nods, but ARIADNE doesn’t notice since she is watching COBB and FISCHER intently. Edge of her seat.
ARTHUR
Mm. So now you've noticed how much time Cobb spends doing things he says never to do.
ARIADNE chuckles
INT. LIFT - CONTINUOUS
SAITO is there as the lift opens. He tries to exit but is stopped by EAMES (in disguise).
EAMES
Mr. Saito, can I have a moment?
SAITO backs up.
SAITO
I-I'm sorry, but...
The blonde puts a hand on his cheek. As the door closes, another person tries to get in.
MAN
Hold on, wait!
Neither hold up the doors for him.
EAMES
You look a bit perkier.
The reflection has a row of blonds. Mirrors reflecting on each other to create an illusion of a larger space. In that row, we see EAMES as he is IRL (or at least his 'well dressed dream self') in the third reflection.
As we cut back to EAMES and SAITO the blonde is nowhere and EAMES (undisguised) is back.
SAITO
Very amusing, Mr. Eames.
EAMES chuckles as SAITO gives him a shove.
Digging into FISCHER's wallet (it's pocketbook length rather than the usual one that goes in a trouser's back pocket. Speaks to the apparent heir's taste in fashion.) and pulls out a photo of a boy with a white rabbit.
SAITO looks up as the lift rumbles, worried. EAMES, however, is unfazed.
SAITO
Turbulence on the plane?
EAMES looks up too.
EAMES
No, it's much closer. That's Yusuf's driving.
He resumes looking through the wallet.
EXT. ALLEY - CONTINUOUS
Rain is pouring. YUSUF ducking bullets while driving. FISCHER's security is closing in.
All the rest of the passengers are buckled and asleep, their heads move listestly as the van swerves left and right.
INT. HOTEL BAR - CONTINUOUS
FISCHER's drink vibrates.
FISCHER
Uh, I'm sorry. Who did you say you were?
COBB
Rod Green from Marketing.
COBB takes the seat next to FISCHER.
COBB
But that's not true at all, is it? My name is Mr. Charles. You remember me, Don't you? I'm the head of your security down here.
INT. LIFT - CONTINUOUS
EAMES
Get out on a different floor and keep moving.
He finishes going through the wallet.
EAMES
Dump the wallet.
He hands FISCHER'S WALLET to SAITO.
EAMES
Security will be looking for that.
SAITO
Okay.
EAMES steps out but at the door he pauses and turns back.
EAMES
We need to buy Cobb a little more time.
He walks off.
SAITO coughs. Maybe he might not have it himself.
INT. HOTEL BAR - CONTINUOUS
FISHER
Security, huh? You work for the hotel?
COBB
No, no. I specialize in a very specific type of security.
He pauses and squints.
COBB
Subconscious security.
FISCHER
You're talking about dreams? Are you talking about, um...
He tries to accept that it's happening.
FISCHER
Extraction?

My verdict of the film: 7/10 (Ever since viewing ‘Saving Face’ --- seems like a lot of the films I’ve viewed previously have slid down the scale. This one slides one notch from an 8 to a 7 due to less attention on character development...)
Link to the timestamp commentary: None (Maybe if there are requests...)
A Formal Review: None (Is there anything left to say? Probably there is...but that’s up to you. If you want me to write one...let me know)
More of my comments about the film: No plans (unless requested, though I do mention it in my writeup about ‘Saving Face’)
